Cory Monteith, best known for playing Finn Hudson on the FOX television show "Glee," was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room at the age of 31, according to CNN.
Vancouver police said the cause of death is not apparent, but an autopsy will be conducted on Monday. They have rules out foul play.
Staff discovered his body at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel after he missed his checkout time, according to Doug LePard, the acting Chief Constable.
Several people had visited Monteith in his room at one point on Friday night, but Monteith was seen on hotel surveillance returning to his room alone in the early hours.
Adam Shankman, who has directed an episode for each of the past three seasons, told CNN that he had spoken to Monteith on Saturday morning, when the actor told him he wanted to come down to California to jet ski. He called Monteith the glue of Glee, saying he was always welcoming, whether to new cast members or crew.
"He showed up every day and he was a delight," Shankman said.
Many members of the cast are in shock.
Mark Salling tweeted a simple "no," after the news was released.
"I have no words," Dot-Marie Jones, who plays the Coach Bieste on the show, tweeted. "My heart is broken.
"Cory was not only a hell of a friend, he was one amazing man that I will hold close to my heart forever.
"I am blessed to have worked with him and love him so much!" she continued. "My heart is with his family and our whole Glee family.
Monteith had been dating co-star Lea Michele. Shankman says he was madly in love with her.
"He felt like it had renewed his spirit," Shankman said.
Monteith had checked into a rehab facility earlier this year, a problem he had been open about.
"I had several interactions with him yesterday where he said that he was doing amazing," Shankman said. "'He even said I am feeling fantastic.'
"I'm like everybody else, really devastated and confused by what happened," Shankman continued.
Monteith's representation has released a statement.
"We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss," a representative for Monteith told ABC News.
FOX Broadcasting Company released a statement on the Glee Facebook page.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic news," they wrote. "Cory was an exceptional person.
"He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously," the statement continued. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones."
A representative for his girlfriend, Lea Michele, also released a statement.
"We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time," the statement read.
