US Airways say that 90 percent of its domestic flights are now equipped with in-flight Wi-Fi, according to USA Today.
The carrier has installed Gogo in-flight Internet on its fleet of 270 Airbus A319, A320, A321 and Embraer 190 aircraft, as well as its Embraer 170 and 175 aircraft, which are operated by the US Airways Express affiliate Republic Airlines.
"Customer demand for in-flight Internet has remained strong and the expansion of Wi-Fi across our fleet allows US Airways to deliver a product that our customer, especially our most frequent fliers, now look for on board," Andrew Nocella, the senior vice president of Marketing and Planning for US Airways, said in a statement. "With US Airways now offering Gogo Wi-Fi Internet on 90 percent of our daily domestic flights, our customers can be assured that they can maximize their productivity and stay connected while in the air."
The airline has also upgraded their technology to enhance their Wi-Fi capacity on board and increase the data rate compared to their previous technology. The introduction of Gogo's ATG-4 technology allowed the airline to improve the service over the previous system, which was ATG (air-to-ground) technology
The only US Airways aircraft not equipped with this technology are the Boeing 757s, 737s and international widebody Airbus A330s.
The company says the new Wi-Fi technology is the one of their "latest initiatives to elevate the on-board experience for its customers."
As more airlines and airports offer Wi-Fi Internet service, airlines are trying to stand out from others by improving their service through increased Internet speed or features. Almost all U.S. airlines now offer some type of Internet service on board.
The airline has also upgraded the planes by adding first class cabins to 110 US Airways Express regional jets and installing Envoy Suite business-class seating on all of the carrier's wide-body Airbus jets.
