Google released news about a futuristic device, Google Glass, which can be used to take pictures or videos as well as get directions, according to FOX News.
The new device allows users to take pictures or video with just a voice command, get real time flight information while walking to a flight gate or use the glasses as a built-in tour guide while visiting museums or historic sites. The uses are found in the camera, location, search, chat and map features, which are the features designed for frequent use by travelers.
While the glasses can record video, send text messages, provide translations and give directions, they aren't yet able to connect to the radio, so it has to go through mobile devices using Bluetooth.
Another possible problem for many users is that the glasses don't connect to iPhones, only the Google Android phone. However, when paired with the smart phone, voice activation can be used to get maps and turn-by-turn directions that are visible to the user through a tiny lens attached to the device.
The problem with using the device in this manner is the possibility that it will block your vision while driving, as the device sits directly in front of your eye.
The voice activation has many uses, including asking a general question, getting a phrase translated, finding flight information, speaking to send an e-mail or text, taking pictures and recording video, as well as many other uses.
These features allow practical uses like finding a restaurant or booking a hotel on the go, which can be useful when traveling.
A difficulty that use of the glasses inherently has is battery life. The device needs to be charged after a few hours, and most people that use glasses or electronic devices with similar function to these glasses while traveling, need them for more than only a few hours.
The glasses are scheduled for release at the end of the year. The cost hasn't yet been released.
