Dubrovnik is An Increasingly Popular Tourist Destination

Dubrovnik is located in the southernmost region of Croatia, and is starting to draw ever-increasing numbers of British and international travelers, according to BreakingTravelNews.com. Croatia joins the European Union (EU) on July 1.

The city sits in south Dalmatia along the Adriatic Sea, with an economy that is almost entirely dependent on tourism.

Dubrovnik has warm summers and cool winters, and the tourist board had tried to push winter events to February or March, and push the St. Blaise Celebrations to the end of January to encourage travelers to come during the off season when they can avoid the summer crowds.

Visitors can also enjoy exploring the cluster of islands off the mainland, including Hvar, which is famous for wine production, and Mljet, which is known for its inland sea and national park status.

From January to May this year, Dubrovnik hosted 1.2 million tourists, the majority from the U.K. followed by France and Germany.

Dubrovnik has the hotel capacity for 22,000 guests, as well as self-catering facilities and marina and camping facilities, allowing the city to host leisure travelers as well as business conferences.

The Dubrovnik Palace Hotel is set up to host those looking for higher end accommodation, with eight meeting rooms and the capacity for 10 to 750 delegates. Each room features a balcony that overlooks the bay and nearby islands.

The opposite end of the bay has the Valamar Hotels, including the Dubrovnik Lacroma Hotel. It has the facilities to host functions of up to 1,000 delegates. It has sea views, gourmet dining, swimming pools, panoramic views of the Elaphiti Islands and its own pebble beach.

The Old Town area of Dubrovnik is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. The area has recently been restored and the city walls have been used in the series Game of Thrones.

The city features a Franciscan Monastery with restored churches and fortresses, restaurants, bars, shops and museums.

The city is serviced by 18 airports in the U.K. and Ireland.
