Delta Flight Fills With Smoke Just After Takeoff [PHOTO]

One of the last things you want to see on your plane is the cabin filling with smoke. That's exactly what happened on a recent Delta Airlines plane.

Passengers flying out of JFK got a scary sight when the cabin of their Delta flight started to fill with smoke as the plane took off on a hot day. The fog appeared in the cabin while the plane was still on the ground and it didn't disappear until the aircraft reached cruising altitude, the Daily Mail reports.

Some passengers snapped some pictures of the scary sight, but some also make light of it. One Reddit user Ficcolo posted the picture saying, "Last night flying out of JFK....this happened and freaked us out. Disco rave flight!"

The look of worry can be seen on the faces of some of the passengers in the photo. The passengers were told to stay in their seats. To ease their concerns, the Captain decided to offer the passengers free alcoholic drinks, which usually go for about $7 on a Delta flight.

Not only was the plane filling with fog, but it also experienced heavy turbulence.

"I was grateful for my tiny bottles of vodka and juice. Worst turbulence ever after such a long Tarmac stay and fogging," Ficcolo wrote.

The fog had risen as high as chest level of some of the passengers, but it shouldn't have caused alarm as it was caused by the hot 90 degree weather in New York. The air conditioning system also wasn't working properly.

The humid air outside mixing with the cool air conditioned air from inside causes a mist of form. When the plane takes off, the air pressure in the cabin decreases which causes the air temperature to decrease. The water in the air condenses and forms the fog that filled the cabin.

The passengers were never in danger, which is why the plane took off, but there's no doubt they were concerned.
