The next level of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been launched. The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner was announced at the 2013 Paris Air Show and it's already drawing a lot of attention.
People can expect to see more 787-10 Dreamlinrs in the sky as Boeing has committed to building at least 102 airplanes for five customers across Europe, Asia and North America.
Several airlines and companies have already expressed interest in the new Dreamliner. Boeing has committed to 30 airplanes for Air Lease Corporation, 10 for GE Capital Aviation Services, 12 for International Airlines Group / British Airways subject to shareholder approval, 30 for Singapore Airlines and 20 for United Airlines.
The new 787-10 is a longer version of the 787 Dreamliner. It will fly up to 7,000 nautical miles, covering more than 90 percent of the world's twin-aisle routes and will seat up to 300-330 passengers depending on what style the airlines choose.
"The 787-10 Dreamliner will be the most-efficient jetliner in history. The airplane's operating economics are unmatched and it has all the incredible passenger-pleasing features that set the 787 family apart as truly special," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner. "The 787-10 is 25 percent more efficient than airplanes of its size today and more than 10 percent better than anything being offered by the competition for the future."
Boeing is getting ready to launch the second Dreamliner member, the 787-9 with its first flight later this year and Boeing had already started the design of the 787-10. International partners will have a say in the design decision. It is expected that the final assembly and first flight will take place in 2017 and the first planes will be delivered in 2018.
"Our ongoing investment in the 787 family is well-founded," said Conner. "With the 787-10, we've designed an exceptional airplane supported by an efficient and integrated production system that can meet increasing demands and create new opportunities for us. Our team and our customers are excited about growing the product line and expanding our presence with this family of airplanes."
Boeing Dreamliners are desirable as they make flights more enjoyable for passengers. They have large, dimmable windows, cleaner air, higher humidity, lower cabin altitude, bigger overhead bins, LED lighting and a smoother ride.
