Passengers on a United Airlines flight went through a scary ordeal as another passenger claimed he had poisoned everyone on the plane.
United Airlines Flight 116 was heading from Hong Kong to Newark, New Jersey when a passenger reportedly told the crew that he "poisoned everyone on board." The other passengers on the flight restrained the disruptive passenger.
"While en route from Hong Kong to Newark, a passenger became disruptive onboard United flight 116," United Airlines spokeswoman Jennifer Dohm said according to Fox News. "The crew followed procedures and the flight is continuing as scheduled."
The crew decided that an emergency landing wasn't necessary. The plane landed safely in Newark. The plane was met by heavy police presence and the rowdy passenger was removed from the flight, one passenger told the Associated Press. He was taken to a waiting EMS truck and transported to a local hospital to be evaluated.
Officials say that the man is likely emotionally disturbed. According to the FBI, no charges have been filed yet. There is no clear evidence that any of the passengers were actually poisoned. The Centers for Disease Control had cleared the Boeing 777 to park at the gate at Newark airport.
That wasn't the only threat on board a plane this week. Over the weekend, an EgyptAir flight had to make an emergency landing after a passenger found a note in the lavatory that read, "I'll set this plane on fire." The flight from Cairo, Egypt to JFK in New York, was forced to land in Scotland. Investigators are trying to determine if the threat was real, who wrote the note and why.
