A deer in Florida ran into some trouble on Saturday evening when it found itself wandering around with a Doritos bag stuck on its head, according to the Associated Press. The deer must have been trying to eat those last hard to reach chips.
Two deputies from Monroe County found the deer, who was wandering around the Florida Keys area near the Port Pine Heights subdivision of Big Pine Key, and were able to remove the bag from the deer's head without a struggle, according to the Sheriff's spokeswoman, Becky Herrin, who spoke to the Associated Press.
Normally, deer are skittish around people, but in this instance the deer didn't run away when the officers approached it to provide assistance. After the deer was fee, it ran away into the surrounding woods.
"It must have wanted that last chip at the bottom of the bag," Deputy Becky Herrin said. "I think it wanted that bag off."
Herrin reminds visitors to the Keys to properly dispose of their trash in garbage cans to protect animals from this or similar types of situations.
The deputies took a photograph of the deer and its unfortunate situation before removing the bag.
Authorities believe the deer must have accidentally gotten the bag stuck on its head while trying to eat the crumbs, a logical conclusion. They don't think anyone did it to the deer on purpose.
The deer in the Keys area are the smallest of the Virginia white-tailed deer subspecies and are endangered. They were previously close to extinction, though there are now around 800 in the United States. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, the deer have been threatened by development, habitat loss and hurricanes.
It was apparently a bad weekend to be a deer, because in another odd circumstance, a woman in Minnesota came across a deer with a jar stuck on its head on Friday. After using a catchpole to secure it, she was able to get the jar off the deer's head.
