Virgin Hotels, one of the many branches of Richard Branson's Virgin Group, has announced that it will build a new hotel in New York City, according to USA Today.
The new hotel will be located on the northwest corner of 29th Street and Broadway in the neighborhood known as NoMad, or North of Madison Square Park, and is expected to open in 2016. The hotel will have 300 rooms, meeting spaces and beverage venues.
Virgin Hotels has been expanding recently, with plans to open new properties in Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Dallas, Washington, D.C. and London. A new property in Chicago is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2014.
The hotel group is partnering with the Lam Group, who will manage the New York property.
"We are delighted to enter the New York market and specifically to play a part in continuing the NoMad neighborhood's growth as a dynamic destination," Raul Leal, the CEO of Virgin Hotels, said in a press release. "Virgin's 60 million global customers can't get enough of New York City, and we hope to welcome them all with our trademark style, humor, innovation and friendly customer service."
John Lam, the founder and CEO of the Lam Group, said the property will include a block of high-end retail space.
"As a newcomer to the lifestyle concept, we spent years considering many brands and operators and feel we have found a perfect partner in Virgin," Lam said. "With Virgin as our partner, we are confident that we can deliver a hotel and nightlife space that exudes energy, style and individuality in spades."
Richard Branson also released a statement expressing his excitement about the new property.
"At long last, the city that never sleeps will get a beautiful and irresistible Virgin Hotel to play, eat, work, mingle, and yes, even to sleep."
