July 4th 2013: Hotel and Airfare Prices Increase for the Holiday Weekend

Planning to travel for July 4^th weekend? Chances are you'll be paying higher prices this year. According to Travelocity, hotel and airfare prices will be up for the holiday weekend, so travelers can expect to pay more.

According to Travelocity booking data, there is a slight 0.4 percent increase in domestic airfare prices and a 1 percent increase for international airfares for 4^th of July weekend compared to last year.

The data also reveals that hotel costs are up. There is close to an 8 percent increase for average daily domestic rates and a nearly 14 percent increase for average daily international rates.

"Despite the decrease in price we saw for flights for Memorial Day weekend, airfare is up slightly year over year for July 4^th weekend," said Courtney Scott , senior editor at Travelocity in a press release. "Travelers should not wait to book when finding a good deal as prices will most likely increase as the holiday draws near."

According to Travelocity, the average cost of a domestic round-trip flight for July 4^th weekend is $384, with international travel averaging $930 round-trip. The average daily rate for a domestic hotel is $168 - an 8 percent increase from the previous year. International hotel rates average averaging $221 a night, a 14 percent increase from last year.
