Game of Thrones: Dubrovnik and Belfast Offer Group Guided Tours of the Filming Locations

"Game of Thrones" fans can now enjoy more than just a themed-package on their vacations abroad as a tour company has started guided tours of the filming locations.

In Dubrovnik, Croatia, Viator Tours offers a three-hour immersive tour into the world of the characters. It takes visitors through the locations used in filming the popular television series. Dubrovnik is a UNESCO-listed city, and the tour shows visitors many aspects of that.

Group members get to climb the city walls for a view of the fictional Blackwater Bay, as well as visit Lovrijenac Fortress, an 11th century castle that features heavily in the series. The guide will also talk about the Targaryens, the Baratheons and the Starks, as well as some other local families.

"While the series itself is filmed in various European locations, Dubrovnik is now the official setting for King's Landing - the capital of the Seven Kingdoms realm," according to the Viator web site.

The tour will also take visitors to several city parks that were used to film countryside scenes.

The tour begins and ends near Dubrovnik Old Town.

For travelers in Northern Ireland, Viator offers a tour of the filming locations in Belfast.

The tour will be led by a "Game of Thrones" expert as the tour visits Carrick-a-Rede, Ballytown and Ballintoy Harbor. The tour will also visit the Giant's Causeway, which is actually a UNESCO-listed location

The tour also visits Ballycastle and Cushendun, where you will be able to walk the nearby caves that were visited by the characters. Then cross the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, an iconic location that connects the mainland to Carrick-a-Rede Island, before the tour stops for lunch at Ballintoy Harbor, which stands in for Lordsport Harbor in the series.

The tour will pick you up from your hotel before traveling along the Causeway Coastal Road.

"Hear tales of the power struggles, battles and trysts between the noble families of Westeros, and learn gossip about the morally dubious King Joffrey Baratheon," according to the web site.

On the way back to Belfast, stop at Downhill Strand, a place featured as Dragonstone in the series, before returning to your Belfast hotel for the evening.
