United Airlines Opens Pet Kennel at Chicago O'Hare International Airport

United Airlines is becoming more pet friendly and is making travel easier for pet-owners flying to or from Chicago. The airline has opened an airport kennel facility at its Chicago O'Hare International Airport hub.

The new kennel provides accommodations and amenities for animals traveling with United's PetSafe service. The kennel is located inside United's new cargo facility and has 28 individual enclosures which allow different types of animals traveling with United to be kept comfortably in separate, ventilated and temperature-controlled areas.

In addition to the kennel, O'Hare also has a fleet of specially built, temperature-controlled PetSafe vans that United uses to transport pets to and from Chicago-based flights in a quick, comfortable manner.

This new kennel in Chicago is the third facility of its type that supports the airline's PetSafe service. There are similar pet kennel facilities located in Houston and Newark. The Spot Experience, a service partner that provides care at United's Newark locations, will also operate the airline's Chicago kennel. Spot Experience staff members said that all of the enclosures are kept clean and sanitized and the pets are walked and given exercise. Grooming and bathing is also available upon request.

"We have an industry-leading pet travel program and this new kennel facility allows us to further extend our best-in-class service to the animals traveling through Chicago," said United's Vice President of Cargo Robbie Anderson in a media release. "The comfort and care provided by our dedicated PetSafe team offers our customers peace of mind whether they are shipping their pets or traveling with them."

United Airlines and United Express are large players in the airline industry. They operate an average of 5,446 flights a day to more than 370 airports across six continents. Last year, the airlines carried more passengers than any other airline in the world, operating nearly two million flights that carried 140 million customers.
