Lady Gage is dead. At least that's what the Internet is saying. However the "Born This Way" signer didn't die. She's just the victim of an Internet death hoax. Lady Gaga is just fine.
Rumors started swirling this week saying that the famous singer passed away. According to India Today, a Facebook page called 'R.I.P. Lady Gaga' was created on Saturday. The page had a brief obituary about Lady Gaga's death.
"At about 11 a.m. ET on Saturday (May 25, 2013), our beloved singer Lady Gaga passed away. Lady Gaga was born on March 28, 1986 in New York. She will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."
"RIP Lady Gaga" also became a trend on Twitter.
The rumor may have started because of a report that said that the singer died in a car accident. According to Global Associated News, "Lady Gaga died in a single vehicle crash on Route 80 between Morristown and Roswell. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics responding to the vehicle accident and was identified by photo ID found on his body. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in this accident - May 25, 2013."
There were many details to the story, but its reliability should be questioned as the report refers to Lady Gaga as "him." If that wasn't enough to make people doubt the report, Global Associated News created fake news reports. A message at the bottom of the site reads:
"FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes! this story was dynamically generated using a generic 'template' and is not factual. Any reference to specific individuals has been 100% fabricated by web site visitors who have created fake stories by entering a name into a blank 'non-specific' template for the purpose of entertainment."
According to India Today, Lady Gaga's reps denied the rumor and confirmed that it was a hoax.
"She joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. She's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet," they said.
Despite the rumor being nothing more than a rumor, many fans took to Twitter to question and mourn the death. Some examples of tweets include:
"Lady Gaga died ?"
"If Lady Gaga died, I will kill myself hahha I dont want to stay on Earth hearing music from sh***y Artists!! 'RIP Lady Gaga"
"Is Lady Gaga dead? Why is RIP Lady Gaga trending worldwide?"
"RIP Lady Gaga wtf???????????????????"
Lady Gaga isn't dead. She is recovering from a hip injury though. There are rumors that she may make a comeback in August.
