Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has launched a travel app that accompanies her weekly newsletter, GOOP, according to USA Today. Similar to her newsletter, it highlights Paltrow's favorites things in the featured cities for both travelers and locals.
The app includes instructional videos, such as a short interview with a Manhattan gallery owner on how to start your own art collection, and recommends things such as manicurists.
The app is $3.99 on iTunes and works on the iPhone and iPad. It includes a guide for things to do in New York City, including Brooklyn, Los Angeles and London, with more cities on the way.
The guide is set up to be useful for locals as well as tourists, with suggestions for things to do that a local might overlook.
Each city comes with a video that users can download to use offline. The video for Manhattan features Paltrow walking through Manhattan and talking about her favorite restaurants, shops, galleries and sections of the city.
Each guide has a homepage that includes the "most popular" bars, restaurants, galleries and attractions in a right-hand column, with a touch feature that shows the basic information and location on a map.
The guides do not cover basic tourist locations, such as the Statue of Liberty of the Empire State Building, but they discuss little known places, such as a food cart on East 64th and Madison Avenue, making it useful for locals as well as tourists.
High-end locations are also included, as most would expect from Paltrow, with the Bar at Culina at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills included in the Los Angeles guide.
A unique feature is a section that features a taxi or black-car driver's favorite bars, cafes and restaurants along his routes.
There is also a section devoted to trendy "New Openings."
The guides currently don't work on androids and function as do-it-yourself guides without any suggested itineraries.
