As if the Burj Al Arab hotel is Dubai wasn't luxurious enough, the hotel has just unveiled its latest high-end amenity. The hotel gives 24-carat gold iPads to guests to use during their stay.
When a guest checks in at Burj Al Arab, they'll be given their own golden iPad which they will use as a "virtual concierge." The device offers information about everything in the hotels from it's restaurants, to spa treatments, to housekeeping and butler services.
The gold iPads were custom made for the hotel by the London-based Gold & Co. Each iPad is engraved with the hotel's logo. Is also includes the Jumeiruah hotel group's motto "Stay Different." Each iPad3 is a 16-gigabyte Wi-Fi device. Currently, they only provide access to the concierge program but the hotel is working on expanding the device so that guests can access other apps.
The gold iPads are just the latest Apple product to be used in the hotel. Each of the hotel's 202 rooms has an iMac. Each room also comes with walk-in showers and Jacuzzis, large plasma TVs, and private butler service.
"Our exclusive Burj Al Arab 24-carat gold iPads epitomise Jumeirah's philosophy of 'stay different' and further enhance our guests' experience during their stay," hotel manager Heinrich Morio told Travel Weekly. "We have also recently introduced iMacs inside all our suites to ensure that we offer thoroughly modern guest experiences and keep up with hospitality industry trends."
Guests are only allowed to use the iPads for the duration of their stay at the hotel, but guests can get a gold iPad of their own to take home as they'll be on sale in the hotel's shop. They'll have a 64-gigabyte version available for the small price of $10,200. They'll also have hold iPad minis, gold iPhone 5's and gold BlackBerry Q10's for sale.
While it may seem a bit ridiculous to have gold iPads, the luxury amenity makes sense considering hotel rates start at $1,500 per night for a double room.
