Universal Orlando raised ticket prices again over the weekend, becoming the first Orlando theme park to have base prices starting above $90.
Universal Orlando will now charge $92 for a one-day, one-park ticket, which is a 3.4 percent increase from the previous $89 price, Orlando Sentinel reports.
Single-day ticket prices for admission to both Universal Studios Florida and Universal's Islands of Adventure also rose. The tickets will now cost $128, up 3.2 percent from $124.
Other ticket prices also rose slight. A two-day, two-park ticket rose 4.4 percent from $159.99 to $166.99.
This is the second year in a row that Universal beat competitor Walt Disney World to raise its prices. The park can take advantage of a price raise due to the popularity of the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction. The park will also open a big new ride in June based on the Transformers franchise.
"We set our prices to reflect the value of the entertainment experience we offer," Universal spokesman Tom Schroder told the Orlando Sentinel. "Our guests continue to tell us we offer great entertainment at great value. Our new pricing has options as low as about $42 per day. And we will continue to offer a variety of value-driven, multi-day vacation packages for guests and their families.
There are still special discounts for those who buy multiple-day passes.
Disney World and Sea World Orlando have not increased their prices yet and one-day, one-park prices remain $89. However that might not last long. Neither company would say if they'll be raising their prices anytime soon, but it's likely to happen. History shows that at least one of the other parks tends to raise their prices once another does, so it is best to buy tickets now before the other parks follow suit.
