A new global social networking platform helps users take advantage of their leisure time, according to BreakingTravelNews.com. Fiz combines the best of listings, discovery and location-based social networking services to help users save time.
Fiz has apps available for both the iPhone and Android devices, and can be used as a website as well. It's intended to save the time that users would otherwise spend surfing the web, looking for local guides and newspapers to find things to do and ways to spend their free time by crowdsourcing the best information about destinations into one place.
It works by collecting data from across the web, giving users access to maps, directions, telephone numbers, reviews, photos, weather, tweets, and more, all in a single place. The information is categorized by type and area of leisure so users can find areas they are interested in and get the information for things in that area that are located in a place that is geographically relevant, making it useful for both locals and travelers.
The application uses place data from FourSquare and Google, in addition to Fiz' own database of locations and a range of other information. Each place offers custom local information, often from other users who have visited the destination, and includes user-generated photographs.
It is intended to grow as more users contribute and share, creating a larger database over time. Users can also add places to the application, adding their own reviews.
Contributors to the application will earn "karma" points for every action they make in contributing to the site. The points will eventually be converted into real world rewards for top contributors.
"Technology has the power to transform the way we spend our leisure time," David Hughes, the co-founder of Fiz, said. "However, trying to draw the right information together to plan an enjoyable experience from several different sources is time-consuming and confusing and we want to make it easier.
"Fiz has been developed to help all types of users, from enthusiasts to socialites, lone travelers to families, jet-setters to local experts, but at its heart, Fiz is a community developing a network of content that brings places to life and that will, in time, create an ecosystem where quality information is held for everyone to benefit from," Hughes said. "Fiz is on a mission to help everyone reclaim their precious leisure time, but this is just the beginning, with much more planned for the future.
"We will continue to bring the best user content together to give a single, comprehensive view of what makes a place worth visiting," Hughes added.
Fiz also has a Twitter account.
