Lindsay Lohan has reportedly gained five pounds after being cut off from Adderall at her rehab center.
The 26-year-old troubled actress has been denied access to Adderall at the Betty Ford Center, so she has been turning to food for comfort as she serves her 90-day sentence according to RadarOnline.
Lohan has been "extremely emotional this past week and is finding comfort in food," a source told Radar. "Lindsay can't stop eating, and has gained five pounds because she has such poor eating habits. She has been exercising, but she just doesn't have a lot of energy because she is no longer taking Adderall, which is a psychostimulant medication that contains amphetamine. She has been talking to a nutritionist at Betty Ford about eating healthier."
It isn't hard to divulge at the Betty Ford Center as the source said they offer delicious meal choices. Now the actress has been eating more and isn't getting the high from her adderall.
"She is complaining that the new medications doctors prescribed, which isn't amphetamine based, aren't working. She is just making herself miserable," the source said.
Lohan was banned from taking Adderall last week as doctors evaluated her and determined that she doesn't need the medication. Lohan says she needs it because she suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
"I have severe ADD," she told Piers Morgan before checking into rehab. "I can't stand still. So I take Adderall for that, it calms me. I know people who take it to stay up, or girls who take it to supposedly stay slim because it kills your appetite. But I eat all the time. I just take it to stay calm. It works well for me."
The drug is used to increase attention and decrease restlessness but the drug can be addictive if taken too often. A side effect of Adderall is weight loss some people have taken it to stay skinny.
Lohan's father, Michael says that his daughter was only taking the drug because she was addicted to it.
"I've said all along that this Adderall is killing her," he told HLN. "She never needed any drugs growing up when she was at the top of her career and [giving] her best performances. But now she is on all these drugs that are destroying her life."
