There are thousands of restaurants in Asian countries, but some are better than others. To help travelers choose the best ones, the Daily Meal came up with a list of Asia's top 101 restaurants.
The list is a part of a series done by the Daily Meal. They also ranked the "101 Best Restaurants in America" and "101 Best Restaurants in Europe." The top Asian restaurant list took six months to compile. It includes restaurants in 11 countries including Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam - plus Hong Kong and Macau. The restaurants are located in 25 different cities.
"Tackling Asia was a tremendous challenge for all kinds of reasons," said Colman Andrews, editorial director for the Daily Meal, "but we felt we had to do it.
''The number of superlative restaurants in that whole vast region is just extraordinary - Japan, remember, has more Michelin three-star places than France."
The majority of the list includes restaurants in China. There are 28 restaurants from China with 21 of them being in Beijing. Five of them were Indian restaurants and four were Thai restaurants.
To develop the list, the Daily Meal asked for nominations from different sources. They had 300 nominees and were able to reduce the list to the 101 best.
Although they already did America and Europe, the Daily Meal chose to rank Asian restaurants "because we don't know anybody in America who doesn't love Asian food of some kind, whether it's take-out Chinese on the couch or a $300 omakase menu at an elegant sushi bar," Andrews said.
Many of the restaurants were found in big cities such as Beijing, Seoul, Taipei, Taiwan and Tokyo, but some of the choices are in smaller cities like La Maison 1888 in Danang, Vietnam, and Kingfisher in Unawatuna, Sri Lanka.
The top choice was Din Thai Fung, a steamed dumpling restaurant in Taipei.
These are the top 10 restaurants in Asia:
1. Din Tai Fung, Taipei
2. Duck de Chine, Beijing
3. Green T. House, Beijing
4. Temple Restaurant, Beijing
5. Capital M, Beijing
6. Varq, New Delhi
7. Dali Courtyard, Beijing
8. Lung King Heen, Hong Kong
9. Michel Bras TOYA Japon, Tokyo
10. 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA, Hong Kong
