One person was shot during a Florida airport shooting on Wednesday.
A Hollywood-style car chase turned into a shooting at the rental car garage at Jacksonville International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, NBC reports.
Jackson SWAT officers were following up on an auto theft that occurred last week and they found the car on Wednesday afternoon. They began to follow it and the driver brought it to the rental car return area. The driver stopped the car in a position that made officers realize that the man knew he was being followed.
Two sheriff's cars were used to try to block the car with one in front and one behind, but the driver started to ram both of the cars by backing up and driving forward into them. The car in question was a Ford Crown Victoria, which ironically, is the same type of vehicle used by many police.
The driver's attempts to escape were successful as he was able to escape the police blockade and drive in reverse through the garage and onto the street. Police then opened fire and hit the car three times while other police units began tracking the car.
The vehicle was later found at a Jacksonville apartment complex. There was a 27-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy who had been shot in the ankle in the car. Both were arrested but police say a third man and possibly a fourth were able to escape.
No law enforcement officers or members of the public were injured in the chase or shooting.
Police are now looking for 20-year-old Rodney Lorenzo who fled the scene. Although it isn't clear if Lorenzo is still in Jacksonville, police warned residents about the man saying ""this is a dangerous man - these detectives felt this enough that they used deadly force."
The rental car area of the airport was re-opened to travelers on Wednesday afternoon. No flights were affected by the incident.
