"Smash" has been smushed. The musical drama series has been cancelled after two seasons.
NBC has decided not to bring back "Smash" after the second season finishes. "Smash" started as a promising show, but it couldn't hold on to high ratings. The show only had 4.5 million viewers and a 1.1 demo rating for 18-49 year olds when the second season began after a nine month hiatus. Those stats only got worse as the season went on. Since the ratings were so low, NBC has decided to close the final curtain on the show.
There were hints that she show wasn't heading in a good direction when NBC decided to move the show from Tuesdays to Saturdays in March.
At the time, showrunner Josh Safran told TVLine, "We're all aware the show is not successful, but I guess I had hoped we would see what happened when The Voice came back [or] maybe they'd move us to a better time slot."
The show starring Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston, was about life on Broadway. When news broke about the show's cancellation, the stars took to Twitter to respond to their fans.
