J.J. Watt broke both of his legs in a car accident. At least that's what the Internet is saying. However the Houston Texans defensive end didn't break his legs because he was never in a car accident. Watt is the victim of an Internet hoax.
A report came out on Wednesday by Global Associated News, which read:
"A spokesperson for the Miami highway safety authority (HSA) has confirmed that J J Watt has broken both of his legs in a traffic altercation. He has been transported via ambulance to a local Miami hospital for treatment, and the full extent of his injuries are not known at this time, however, both of his legs were visibly broken and not life threatening according to sources."
"The accident involved a 2012 BMW driven by J J Watt and a 76 year old female driver in a 2010 Audi. The driver of the Audi was issued a citation for failing to stop at a red light before striking the vehicle driven by J J Watt at a high rate of speed. Team spokespersons could not be reached for comment at this time."
Since there are so many details to the story, it is easy to believe that it's real, but Global Associated News creates fake reports using a generator.
A message at the bottom of the site reads:
"FAKE... THIS STORY IS 100% FAKE! this is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes! this story was dynamically generated using a generic 'template' and is not factual. Any reference to specific individuals has been 100% fabricated by web site visitors who have created fake stories by entering a name into a blank 'non-specific' template for the purpose of entertainment."
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Carolina Panther's quarterback Cam Newton became the victim of the same exact hoax a few months ago.
As if that wasn't enough proof, Watt took to Twitter to squash the rumors
himself. "Fake media reports. I'm perfectly fine, relaxing after morning training session & headed to an event for Houston Childrens Charities tonight," he said.
Watt did not get in a car accident and he did not break both of his legs. Yet fans of the football star have taken to Twitter to discuss the rumor which they believe is true. Some examples of tweets include:
"Uh oh every girl in America is about to die... there's rumor JJ watt just got in a car accident"
"JJ Watt broke both his legs in a car accident.
