It was not so long ago that Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey were almost always spoken about in the same sentence, filling the media with their daily conversation. Since then, there has been a divorce, a marriage, an engagement, and three children between them in their new relationships. Lachey spoke on Bravo's "What Happens Live" where he discussed his current relationship with ex-wife Jessica Simpson.
Lachey was on the show with his band members from 98 Degrees to play a game of "Plead the Fifth," in which the contestants can stay silent or answer awkward questions.
When it came to Lachey's turn, the host asked him how long it has been since he had last spoken to Simpson. The two rose to fame together when they starred in the MTV reality show "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica." The pair divorced eight years ago.
"It's been years," Lachey said. "Honestly, probably six years.
"It was like another lifetime ago," Lachey added, saying he does not watch old episodes of the series. Since the divorce, Lachey has married model/TV host/actress Vanessa Minillo and the couple welcomed their first child, son Camden, in September 2012.
"As you can imagine, that's not popular viewing in my house," he said. "We don't sit around as a family and watch the old DVDs."
Lachey made a comment during the interview that has prompted speculation that Simpson's father, Joe Simpson is gay when he discussed the main benefit of not having Joe Simpson as a father-in-law anymore.
"I don't have to play grab-a** under the table on Easter Sunday," Lachey said.
During the interview, Lachey's younger brother, Drew, who is a member of the band, spoke out about the public relations trouble Lachey might be facing as a result of answering the question.
"Our publicist is freaking out right now," Drew Lachey said.
Jessica Simpson, 32, is engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson. They have a one-year-old daughter, Maxwell, and are expecting another son later this year.
