The Jodi Arias trial is coming to an end as the jury has finally reached a verdict. The verdict will be revealed live. You can watch the livestream video of the decision here.
After several weeks of hearing her testimony, the jurors have reached a verdict in the murder trial. Jurors have looked over evidence and heard the testimonies and they will determine if Arias murdered her ex-lover Travis Alexander in self-defense or straight homicide, CNN reports.
Alexander was stabbed several times, shot and almost decapitated when he was killed five eyars ago. Arias argues that she claimed Alexander in self-defense as he attacked her but the severity of the murder and the ever-changing details of the case have made some believe that Arias didn't do it in self-defense.
The jury has been listening to the case since January 2. Closing arguments were made on Friday and jurors deliberated for more than 15 hours to reach a verdict.
If Arias is convicted of first-degree murder, the jurors will have to decide if she should live or die.
Several things could happen. The prosecution pushed for a first-degree murder conviction. If convicted on this charge, Arias would have to go through another mini-trial to determine if she killed Alexander cruelly and knew that he would suffer.
The charge could lead to her being executed unless the jury is lenient. The other option is facing life in prison and she wouldn't be eligible for parole for at least 25 years.
If the prosecution can't prove that the murder was premeditated, which is necessary in a first-degree murder charge, Arias could be charged with second-degree murder which would be a 10 to 22 year prison sentence. If the jury decided that Arias killed Alexander recklessly or that he did attack her, she would be convicted of manslaughter.
The jury may also find Arias not guilty and may say that she did indeed act in self-defense.
Here is a livestream video of the case. The verdict is expected to be revealed some time after 4:30 p.m. EST.
