105-Year-Old Bacon Woman: Pearl Cantrell Says the Key to Longevity is Bacon

A 105-year-old woman says bacon is the key to life. She says that the key to her old age is the widely-loved pork product.

Pearl Cantrell, a mother of seven children, who spent her life doing physical labor, is a big bacon fan.

"I love bacon, I eat it everyday," Pearl Cantrell told NBC affiliate KRBC when asked the secret to living so long. "I don't feel as old as I am, that's all I can say," Cantrell added.

The Texas woman outlived three of her children and her husband says she doesn't feel her age and she proves it by staying active. She still likes to dance, especially at her three-day long 105th birthday party in which 200 guests attended. Among them were her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great granchdildren.

"She might go dancing on Saturday night, but she'll be at church Sunday morning", Cantrell's daughter Anno told KRBC.

One thing that Cantrell doesn't do is think about death.

"She's taught us to work hard and to get up every morning and think about living. She's never thought about dying", Anno said.

Bacon producer, Oscar Meyer found out about Cantrell's love of the meat so they had their iconic Wienermobile pay her a visit. Cantrell got a person bacon delivery and she even got to take a ride in the Wienermobile.

Cantrell's claim that bacon is the key to longevity may actually be true. According to a University of Zurich study that was published in the journal BMC Medicine in March, eating little or no red meat may be a risk factor in early death. However bacon can also cause sickness as the same study said that eating too much bacon may cause bowel cancer. This study was the reflection of the diets of more than 400,000 people between the ages of 35 and 69.
