Houston Airport Shooting: Man Shoots Self in Bush Intercontinental Airport Terminal

A Houston Airport shooting gave passengers a scare on Thursday. A man shot and killed himself in the terminal, causing several inbound and departing flights to stop operating.

According to the Houston Police Department, a man with a rifle fired at least two shots into the air at the ticket area inside Terminal B of Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, CNN reports. Then the man shot himself, but the details of the incident are not clear.

According to CBS News, a Department of Homeland Security law enforcement officer approached the man before he shot and killed himself. However a police captain told KHOU-TV that a federal air marshal shot at the man and missed. The man then used a pistol to shoot himself.

It is not clear if the man died. According to the Houston Police Department, the man suffered at least one gunshot wound and was being transported to an area with life threatening injuries. However CNN reported that Roxanne Mena, of the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office, said a team was going to the airport to pick up the body of a male gunshot victim.

No other person was killed or injured in the incident and it appears that the man acted alone. Officers are not looking for any other individuals in connection with the incident.

CNN interviewed a woman who works at the McDonalds in the terminal.

"As soon as he walked in, he just automatically started shooting quickly," said the employee, who said her name is Kendra. "And we hear two shots and we just automatically started running. We ran all the way to the back."

Following the shooting, the terminal was closed and passengers were screened and then relocated to another terminal. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, flights arriving at the Texas airport during the afternoon were delayed by about an hour. They were told that it was due to a "security issue."
