London Stansted Airport Adds 'Smart Access' Technology To Improve Traffic Flow And Convenience

London is a city with many airports, including three major ones, and now London Stansted is about to apply advanced technology by adding "Smart Access" to improve traffic flow and convenience for passengers, according to BreakingTravelNews.com.

The airport will have new self-service "Smart Access" scanners, which are already starting to replace the manual boarding pass checks for all passengers flying out of the airport.

The system has a very precise set-up and is similar to the Oyster card, which is a form of electronic ticketing that allows passengers to hold single and period tickets as well as travel permits that can be used on buses, railways, and trams, as well as the London Underground stations. The new system works by scanning boarding passes and verifying the passengers are flying on the correct flight and date.

London Stansted Airport has spent approximately $1.8 million to set up and enforce the system, according to MacDonald Humfrey, an industry leader in airport systems, who has been working with them to design, manufacture and tune the "Smart Access" system.

"The introduction of the new 'Smart Access' system will make it quicker and simpler for passengers to reach the departure lounge," Neil Banks, the Terminal Manager for Stansted Airport said. "The innovation is the first part of some really exciting changes planned across the airport.

"Stansted is already one of the most efficient and easy to use airport terminals but we want to make it even better," Banks added.

The airport is already easy to access. Terravision provides an airport transfer for passengers to take, with a shuttle bus service between Stansted Airport and London Victoria and London Liverpool Street train stations. The services are inexpensive, as well as comfortable and easy to book. They run frequently, making them a convenient form of transportation to the airport, with a bus running every 30 minutes.
