You never know when the Loch Ness Monster might show up and wreak havoc. That is why a cruise ship company got Loch Ness Monster insurance.
Cruise line Jacobite Cruies, based in Iverness, is well-prepared for any situation. If one of its boats are damaged by the Loch Ness Monster, they can expect to receive a six-figure payout.
Jacobite owner Freda Newton hopes the mythological creature will stay away for the company's boats so she doesn't have to make a claim on her £1million insurance package.
"We see it as keeping in line with good business practice," Freda Newton, managing director of Jacobite Cruises, tells The Scottish Sun. "There is so much going on - people have tried to hunt the Loch Ness Monster, people have tried to capture it. We just don't know what could happen. It's prudent."
Newton wanted to be sure she took every precaution. She thinks they would look more foolish if the Loch Ness Monster actually attacked and they weren't insured against it.
"I don't know what the odds of this actually happening might be, but this is Loch Ness," Newton said according to the Daily Mail. "How silly would we look if it did and we weren't covered for it? I hope we never have to make a claim and if Nessie does make another appearance, she gives our boats a wide berth."
Newton made the insurance deal with Scottish firm, Towergate Moray Firth on the 80th anniversary of the first Nessie sighting.
"This is probably the most unusual insurance request we have ever had, but we are delighted to provide cover," Bob Jack, the director of Towergate Moray Firth said, according to the Daily Mail.
"I'm sure everyone who sets sail on the loch would settle for a sighting of Nessie rather than a much closer encounter. We wish Jacobite, their passengers and crews many more happy voyages on the loch without any claims on this policy," Jack continued.
Jacobite Cruises owns three boats. They offer daily trips on Loch Ness and get about 10,000 customers a year.
