The body of a drowned tourist was discovered in the Bahamas.
The body of a 31-year-old U.S. tourist was found after he drowned when he was caught in an ocean current while swimming off a beach on the island of Eleuthera, the Associated Press reports.
According to Superintendent Stephen Dean from the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the man was from Palm Beach, Florida. His name has not yet been released by police.
According to Dean, the man's body washed up on the beach in Eleuthera late Saturday. He had been missing since Friday evening.
Police officials said that the man was swimming with three friends when they had to start struggling to get out of a strong current. The man's three other American friends were able to make it back to shore.
According to AP, Eleuthera is a long, narrow island lying east of the archipelago's capital of Nassau.
Unfortunately this isn't the only time a tourist drowned while on vacation recently. Earlier this month, a 69-year-old Canadian tourist drowned on the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland. He had a medical emergency while snorkeling and his wife was unable to revive him. Another 63-year-old tourist from Washington state drowned while snorkeling in Maui waters. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition but she later died. A 49-year-old Washington man drowned just two days earlier on another Maui beach.
In March, a 64-year-old German tourist drowned at Main Beach on the Gold Coast. The man was rescued but he could not be revived. In January, a 30-year-old British tourist died after he was caught in a rip tide while swimming off the coast of Thailand.
It is important to take precautions while swimming in unfamiliar waters. Make sure to stay in front of lifeguards or stay in shallow water if you cannot swim. Don't go swimming alone.
