Actress Reese Witherspoon's weekend got off to a bad start when she was arrested in Atlanta on Friday night for disorderly conduct.
"You're going to be on national news," Witherspoon, 37, allegedly told a Georgia state trooper as she was being handcuffed, according to Variety. It looks like she was right.
Trooper First Class J. Pyland arrested Witherspoon and her husband, Hollywood agent Jim Toth, 42, on a drunken driving charge.
"Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer," Pyland wrote in his arrest report. "I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet."
Witherspoon allegedly didn't listen and got out of the car, and when Pyland warned her again, she told him that she was a U.S. citizen and allowed to "stand on American ground."
"I put my hands on Mrs. Witherspoon's arms to arrest her," the officer said. "Mrs. Witherspoon was resistant but I was able to put handcuffs on her without incident due to Mr. Toth calming her."
"Do you know my name?" Witherspoon asked, according to the officer. "You're about to find out who I am."
Pyland stopped their car when he observed Toth weaving in and out of his lane as he drove through the Buckhead area of Atlanta, according to the arrest report. His eyes were bloodshot and his clothing was disheveled. He was given several coordination tests and a Breathalyzer that registered 0.139, above the legal limit of 0.08.
Their car was impounded, and Witherspoon and Toth were taken to the Atlanta city jail, according to the report. An unidentified passenger was with them, and caught a cab. They were then bailed out of jail around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, with a court date set for Monday.
Witherspoon is in Atlanta filming "The Good Lie." Production has not been impacted by the arrest.
