For travelers that need a nap, a high-end European mattress maker has just opened its first U.S. location.
Coco-Mat's store is located in the recently renovated space at 49 Mercer Street in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. The store is going to extremes to distinguish itself from all the other mattress stores. They are offering complimentary food, drink, slippers, a robe, and the aforementioned room where customers can nap, complete with scented candles, plush bedding and an oversized shower. It sounds nicer than most hotel rooms.
"It takes more than five minutes to determine whether you'll want a bed for the next 20 years," a CoCo-Mat spokeswoman told The Huffington Post. "We want customers to feel like they're at home in this store."
Customers can use the luxury amenities free of charge, without even making a commitment to purchase a mattress, which range in price from $1,400 to $27,000.
It sounds like a great place to take a mid afternoon nap while adjusting to jet lag.
The mattresses are all handmade in Greece from natural materials like seaweed, horsehair and coconut. There is no metal used.
"People have slept on springs for only about 50 years," Paul Elfmorfidis, the store's found, told The New York Times. "But for thousands of years before that, humanity slept on nonmetal beds."
If you enjoy your nap, and want to take the mattress home, it will cost you about $16,000. The nap room can be booked in advance for up to three hours. If it's empty, walk-ins are welcome, as are couples. Use of the shower is also complimentary, which could make it useful to clean up if you've been out sight-seeing without having to go back to a hotel room before dinner.
There's even a complimentary shot of Greek espresso!
