Royal Caribbean to Have Sky Diving and Bumper Cars on Quantum Class Ships

Cruise ships may have hit a snag recently when it comes to problem but Royal Caribbean is determined to bring the fun back on board with some revolutionary amenities such as simulated sky diving and bumper cars.

Royal Caribbean International unveiled its new Quantum class of ships this week and they're about to putt out all the stops to get customers to choose their ships with the first-of-their-kind amenities for a cruise, the Daily Mail reports.

The ship will be the first to offer guests a simulated sky diving experience. They'll also have a unique capsule ride called North Star. The ride consists of a jewel-shaped glass capsule that holds 14 people and goes over the side of the ship, leaving passengers suspended 300 feet above sea level, but giving them an amazing view of the sea from all sides.

In addition to this, inside staterooms, which typically don't have a view, will have a "virtual balcony." They'll have 80-inch LED screens which show a real-time view of the ocean or port.

Another addition to staterooms is that families will be able to book three different types of rooms that are connectable.

To keep families entertained, there will be plenty of fun activities such as bumper cars, roller skating and even a circus school where families can learn how to use a trapeze.

"This new generation of ships gave us an opportunity to make another leap in vessel design, Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. said in a statement. ''Innovation has always been part of our DNA and we have taken advantage of all that creativity to design Quantum cruising."

The first Quantum class ship, Quantum of the Seas, will debut in fall 2014. Its sister ship, Anthem of the Seas, will debut in spring 2015.

The ships will have 18 decks and will be able to carry 4,180 guests at double occupancy with 2,090 staterooms. They will initially be based out of Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, N.J.
