Traveling with pets has become more common but some destinations are more pet friendly than others. If you want to travel with your pet, you might want to head to a pet-friendly city. To help pet-owners who like to travel with their furry friend, Priceline.com came up with a list of the top ten pet-friendly cities.
Priceline.com's top ten pet-friendly cities were determined based on the number of pet-friendly hotels there are, the number of off-leash dog park and walkability.
The top ten cities on the list are:
- Albuquerque, NM
- Portland, OR
- Tucson, AZ
- Tampa, FL
- Indianapolis, IN
- Salt Lake City, UT
- Austin, TX
- Tulsa, OK
- Louisville, KY
- San Francisco, CA
"People love their pets and many can't imagine traveling without them. But not all cities and hotels are created equal when it comes to accommodating four-legged friends," said priceline.com's Chief Marketing Officer Brett Keller in a media release. "We've created this list as a guide to help travelers find the best experiences no matter who's along for the ride."
The cities were ranked based on on the number of hotels within Priceline.com's network of Express Deals(sm) hotels that are listed as "pet friendly, the number of off-leash dog parks per hundred thousand residents) and the walkability as measured by Walk Score of each city.
More pet-owners are traveling with their pets as more destinations are becoming pet-friendly. According to survey, 83 percent of pet travelers turn to search engines and websites to help plans their trips. Finding accommodations for pets is much easier than it used to be, but it still remains as one of the biggest reasons why more dog owners don't travel with their pets. Comparing a recent survey with a 2011 Dogtrekker survey, finding pet accommodations has become 9.5 percent easier.
