Summer is just around the corner which means it's time to plan your trip for Memorial Day 2013! Being a busy travel weekend, there are some days that are better to travel than others that week. Travelocity analyzed data to determine the best time to travel for Memorial Day.
Travelocity found that travelers who are looking for the best deal for Memorial Day are better off traveling the week leading up to the day and returning on Saturday, May 25. Travelers can find savings of up to $191 by taking their trip at this time. Those who decide to extend their trip past Memorial Day will see higher fares.
According to Travelocity, those who plan to travel for the holiday weekend only departing Friday, May 24 and returning Monday, May 27, will probably spend an average of $350 for a round trip domestic flight.
"When it comes to Memorial Day travel, it's best to search for your flights using flexible dates and multiple airports," said Courtney Scott , senior editor for Travelocity in a release. "Be sure to book sooner rather than later, as with any holiday, prices will continue to increase as Memorial Day approaches. Book now, and be strategic about the days you fly to get the most bang for your buck."
Those who are planning a Memorial Day weekend trip should book them as soon as possible as it's already April! According to Travelocity's research, prices tend to drop at the beginning of April and steadily increase each week after. The highest prices occur during the week of April 22 and the week of May 19. Prices jump an average of $26 for last minute bookings.
