Holland America Plans More Australian Excursions For 2013-14 Cruising Season

Cruise lines around the globe are showing off their new itineraries and ships for the upcoming 2013-14 cruising season and Holland America is no different.

According to USA Today, the cruise line "will send two ships to Australia and New Zealand--the same number the line had in the region this past year."

The company stated in a press release that "the1,916-passenger Oosterdam and 1,432-passenger Volendam will return to Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific islands in October for a series of sailings that will visit more than 50 ports of call."

The two ships will set sail from Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand between October and March 2014 on 10-to-14-night voyages.

On the 14-night Australian cruise, stops will include Melbourne, Australia; Hobart, Tasmania; and Dunedin, Akaroa, Wellington, Napier, Gisborne and Christchurch, New Zealand. Fares for this excursion starts at $1,599 per person, based on double occupancy.

However, if exploring New Zealand is more important, Holland America's "New Zealand Discovery" is the way to go.

On this 14-night itinerary, the stops are: Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Akaroa, Gisborne, Milford Sound, Napier, Tauranga and the Bay of Islands. This option also comes with a cheaper base-far price, $1,499 per person, based on double occupancy.

But, for those with more interest in the area, much more time on their hands and a bit more "Well-to-do" financially, don't worry, Holland America plans a 34-night circumnavigation of Australia on the Volendam to kick off Oct. 20 in Sydney.

There will be 20 ports to dock at and a visit to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Fares for the voyage start at $4,999 per person, based on double occupancy.

The company doesn't want to stop there though, if just seeing and experiencing the Great Barrier Reef is where the interest is, how about choosing the 19-night "Barrier Reef" cruise out of Melbourne kicking off on Nov. 20, which will include, according to USA Today, "two days of scenic cruising at the Great Barrier Reef as well as stops at Sydney, Burnie, Hamilton Island, Cairns and Darwin, Australia; and Komodo Island, Bali and Semarang, Indonesia before arriving Singapore." Fares for this cruise start at $2,299 per person, based on double occupancy.
