A young woman was found dead in a dormitory room at Columbia University on Sunday morning, according to police.
The woman was identified as Jessica Fingers, of Monticello, N.Y. A drug overdose is being investigated as the possible cause of death.
The 21-year old was found around noon in the room located on the East Campus, unconscious and unresponsive, lying face up on the floor. She was declared dead at the scene.
Fingers was a student at the university, though she left after the Spring 2012 semester, and was still on leave at the time of her death. Fingers was at the university to visit friends, according to Kevin Shollenberger, the Dean of Student Affairs, who spoke to the university's newspaper, The Columbia Daily Spectator.
Nno arrests have been made and foul play is not suspected in the on going investigation.
Fingers was a distance runner and was a member of the Columbia University Class of 2013, the Columbia Daily Spectator reported. She was majoring in sociology and was attending the university on a full scholarship with plans to pursue a career in marketing or law.
"There is no one else in the world like you," said one friend. "You are a great person and one of the best friends I could ever ask for."
"I'm sorry, Jessica, I'm glad the last time we spoke, you were happy," said another friend. "I'll see you again one day. We can have good times like we always did in earth science."
Columbia University is offering counseling and psychological services to students. Staff members are also available, as well as a peer counseling hotline and the office of the University Chaplain.
