10-Year-Old Found Alive After Kidnapping From Her Home

Ten-year-old Nicole Ryan was abducted from her home by two men in Northridge on Wednesday was found safe.

Police gave a news conference on Wednesday evening, where they described one of the suspects as an 18-year-old white male. There was no description for the second male.

Two vehicles are reportedly involved in the crime. A black pick-up truck was recovered by police and is being processed for evidence. Police believe Ryan was taken to multiple locations, among them a storage facility and a vacant house. The locations are only blocks from each other.

Police have not found a connection between Ryan and her abductors.

"I've got a young lady that was abducted," Los Angeles Police Department Captain William P. Hayes said. "I don't know the reason."

Ryan's home is located near Oxnard Street and Canoga Avenue. The abduction took place around 2:50 a.m. The kidnapping was reported by her parents around 3:50 a.m. Wednesday from their home in the 8550 block of Oakdale Street.

Ryan's mother told police she had seen the girl in her room around 1:00 a.m. and checked on her again at 3:30 a.m. after noticing the bedroom door was ajar. That was when she discovered the girl was missing. After searching the house, she called the police.

Police believe she was dropped off at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Woodland hills, which is located about six miles from her home. A bystander recognized her in a parking lot by her distinctive red hair and called the police.

The patrolman called police and fire personnel, and Ryan was transported by ambulance to West Hills Hospital for a medical examination. Authorities believe she was in shock. She also suffered from facial lacerations and bruising.

She was found barefoot and in different clothing than what she had been wearing during the abduction. Police are reviewing security footage from nearby businesses to find leads.

"Her face was white. She looked very tired and worried," a witness to the scene, Nicolas Jackson, told the Los Angeles Times. "You could see she had some worries for the past few hours."

Police spokesman Richard French said there was no indication of foul play. No windows were forced open. However, the back door had been left unlocked and the side gate was open. An LAPD alert noted that Ryan is unable to reach the lock on the gate without assistance.

Police Lt. Terri Brinkmeyer said there was no history of running away.

"She's a good kid," he said. "She's not a troublemaker, and this isn't anything she would normally do."
