A tourist jumped out a window in a desperate attempt to escape a possible sexual attack at her hotel in Agra, India.
The British tourist jumped out of the third-floor hotel room window after the hotel owner tried to force his way into her room to offer her a massage. The woman was not seriously injured during the incident but she did have some injuries to her legs.
The woman told police that the owner repeatedly knocked on her door and even attempted to unlock it after she turned down his offer for a free massage.
Police arrested the hotel owner but no charges have been filed yet. The owner denied the woman's story and he said he was only knocking on her door because she requested a 4 a.m. wakeup call.
''Our consular team has spoken to this lady and also to the local police," a spokesman for the British High Commission in New Delhi said according to AP. The spokesman said the embassy was offering her consular assistance.
Whether or not the woman was telling the truth about the hotel owner trying to sexually assault her, her thoughts weren't out of line. This incident comes after a tourist from Switzerland was gang-raped just a few days before in India. Six men was arrested in connection with that incident.
There is a higher concern over sexual assaults in India ever since a woman was fatally gang-raped on a bus in New Delhi in December. Many protested the government asking them to do a better job at keeping women safe.
After the protests, the government passed a law that increased the amount of prison time for rapists and even allowed the death penalty to be the punishment for rapes that result in death or a coma. Acts such as voyeurism, stalking, acid attacks and human trafficking are now punishable by criminal law.
