Carnival Cruise Lines is on a roll as far as having problems goes. Yet Another Carnival ship is having a technical issue.
The 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend is having issues with a Azipod propulsion units, causing it to move much slower, USA Today reports.
Carnival claims that the hotel operations are fine and that the lights, air conditioning and plumbing is working without issue, but ship will miss it's stop in Grand Cayman today due to the reduced speed.
The incident on Carnival Legend comes one day after passengers reported technical problems on the Carnival Dream. It also comes a month after an engine room fire left the Carnival Triumph adrift and passengers were subject to horrendous conditions including overflowing toilets, limited food, no air conditioning, and sleeping on the deck, as they were pulled to a post by tug boats over the course of four days.
Both the Carnival Dream and the Carnival Triumph are out of service as they undergo repairs.
The Carnival Legend was in the middle of a seven-day cruise to the Western Caribbean after it left Tampa on Sunday. It was scheduled to make stops at Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico as well as Grand Cayman. Since the ship lost its speed, it is no heading straight back home to Tampa instead of stopping at Grand Cayman. It is expected to arrive in Tampa on Sunday.
The passengers on the Carnival Legend will receive a $100 per person credit as an apology for missing the Grand Cayman stop. They'll also get a refund for any shore excursions that they were supposed to take. They'll also receive 50 percent off a future cruise with Carnival.
Those who were on the Carnival Dream had to be flown home from St. Maarten due to power issues while the ship was in port.
Yet another Carnival cruise, the Carnival Elation, also had problems with its Azipod propulsion unit this week, but Carnival said the issue was minor and the problem hasn't impacted the ship.
