Posting a photo of a plane crash on a Facebook page for an airport might not be the brightest idea. It's even worse if the plane crash photo was from an incident in which a child died.
The social media person for the London-based Luton Airport posted a photo of a plane crash, not intending to cuase harm.
"Because we are such a super airport...this is what we prevent you from when it snows...Weeeee :)," the caption read, alongside branding for Luton Airport.
The plane featured in the photo was from a real plane crash at at Chicago's Midway Airport in 2005. A Boeing 737 had slid odd the runway and landed on a car. A child died in the incident.
Due to criticism, the photo was eventually removed from the London Luton Airport Facebook page, but some caught a screen grab of the inappropriate photo.
A Luton Airport spokesperson told the BBC, ""We have social media guidelines that clearly outline what is acceptable," a statement read. However in this instance a new, over-enthusiastic member of our support team made an honest but misguided mistake and clearly stepped over the line."
Luton Airport's Facebook page often makes light-hearted posts. Many of the other posts on the page include photos of cute cats and dogs.
After receiving attention for the incident, the Luton Airport Facebook page posted the following apology for the incident:
"THIS IS AN APOLOGY TO ALL OF YOU:
We got it very wrong yesterday. An inappropriate image was posted on our Facebook page and for that we are deeply sorry. It is our intention here on Facebook to provide a high level of customer support. We highly value our community and are always looking for ways to improve our service to you.
Please accept our unreserved apologies to all of you for the insensitive image and our promise that it will never happen again."
