Actors Michelle Williams and Jason Segal have called it quits after almost a year of dating.
US Weekly reported that they decided to end the relationship earlier this month. The breakup is a surprise for fans as they seemed to be getting quite serious. The Huffington Post reports that they even reportedly purchased a home together in Brooklyn this past October. They were also spotted looking blissful together in Mexico vacation with Williams' 7-year-old daughter Matilda and Michelle's actress friend, Busy Phillipps who stars in "Cougar Town."
Williams admitted to InStyle that she didn't really realize who Segal was before they started dating. She said in March issue of the magazine, "I didn't actually realize who he was before I started dating him. I mean, I saw the Muppets movie, and I thought, 'Oh, that's cute,' but the truth is I didn't realize he made a lot of very popular, funny movies or was on a TV show."
Williams and Segal kept a low profile during their relationship but multiple sources have said that Segal and Williams' daughter Matilda whose father is the late Heath Ledger, had become quite fond of each other.
An unnamed source told People magazine that Williams' wasn't ready to mae a commitment to Segal.
"She cares a great deal for Jason but is not ready to make a commitment," the source told People. "Maybe if they were together day-to-day, she would have more confidence in a future. But not at this time."
The tabloid quoted another source saying that the relationship was strained since Williams lives in NYC and Jason spends much of his time in LA.
"Jason never got rid of his place in L.A., and Michelle's life with [daughter] Matilda was and has always been in New York," the second source said to People. "While Jason made every effort to make them a priority in his life - and they were top priority - he still couldn't drop everything and leave his life and career in L.A."
Williams, 32, had been broken up with Ledger for less than a year when he died of an accidental prescription drug overdose in 2008. She later dated director Spike Jonze for about a year. In March 2012 US Weekly broke the news of their romance. At the time a source said to the magazine that the couple was "totally in love. Jason is obsessed with Michelle."
