Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila to Close on July 1

As previously mentioned, Sofitel announced its closure, which is set to take effect on July 1. As of press time, it remains unclear whether the closure is temporary or permanent.

According to reports by local media, the surprise closure of the hotel is due to safety reasons.

"In the past two years, so many incidents have happened already," Esteban Peña Sy, the president of Philippine Plaza Holdings Inc. (PPHI), said in an interview. PPHI is the entity that owns the hotel in the Philippines.

"In fact, last September, we had to evacuate more than 1,000 guests and transferred to other hotels because the water pipeline burst," he further elaborated. "So, we want to close for safety reasons."
