An American Eagle flight was forced to make an emergency landing at a Florida airport on Tuesday morning after there were signs of smoke in the cockpit.
Shortly after the plane heading for Georgia took off from Miami International Airport, the plane was forced to turn back as there was an electrical smell in the cockpit, NBC Miami reports.
The crew reported the smell on board and the pilot turned the plane with 42 passengers and three crew member on board around.
The pilot turned the plane back to the Miami airport and landed without incident at 7:45 a.m. None of the passengers or crew members were injured.
The passengers were rescheduled on other flights to Georgia on Tuesday.
This isn't the first time a plane had to make an emergency landing due to smoke. In October, a Jet2 aircraft which was set to head to Spain from Glasgow, Scotland, had to be evacuated right before takeoff as the plane filled with smoke. The evacuation was a bit messy and several passengers were injured while going down emergency inflatable slides.
Earlier that month, an American Airlines plane from Chicago to London, which is owned by the same company that owns American Eagle, had to make an emergency landing in Ireland because a passenger said they smelled smoke on the flight. An inspection showed that the cause of the smell was an overheated overhead fan.
American Airlines will be undergoing some changes after spending over a year in a bankrupt state. They will soon be merging with US Airways to create the world's largest airline. American Airlines went through a series of problems from loose seats, to being unable to make negotiations with pilots and crew members, to emergency landings for mechanical issues.
There are different opinions out there on the merger. Some think it might be a good thing and will get American Airlines out of bankruptcy but some believe it will be a service nightmare for customers.
