Qatar Airways Boosts Flights with Lisbon Route as Part of 2024 Expansion
The airline's Chief Commercial Officer, Thierry Antinori, expressed excitement about returning to Lisbon and the opportunity to connect passengers from Qatar to various regions like Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
Simple Flying reported that this decision comes as part of Qatar Airways' broader efforts to recover from the pandemic's impact on travel. In addition to Lisbon, the airline's 2024 summer schedule includes new flights to Venice, Italy, and Hamburg, Germany. Moreover, the airline will soon add Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to its destinations and has received approval for daily flights between Qatar and Madagascar.
Qatar Airways has also planned an increase in its Doha-Boston service, making it the route's highest frequency since its launch in March 2016. These expansions are a clear sign of the airline's commitment to rebuilding and enhancing its global network.
Doha's Hamad International Airport, a central hub for Qatar Airways, has also seen a significant rise in traffic. The airport reported a 31% increase in passenger traffic and a 22% rise in aircraft movements in 2023. The airport connected to 255 destinations last year and welcomed new airlines, boosting its appeal to global travelers.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, who manages the airport, remarked that this growth is a strong indicator of the aviation industry's resilience and adaptability.
