A cruise ship was delayed for several hours due to fog on Monday.
Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Sea was stalled for an extra four hours due to foggy conditions. The ship arrived an hour and a half later than scheduled at the port in Tampa, ABC Action News reports.
When passengers arrived, they were in a hurry to get taxis and other ground transportation as the late arrival put them at risk of missing their flights to go back home. Many of those who had to rush were passengers from Columbus, Ohio because the cruise was chartered by the Ohio State University as a way to raise money for cancer research.
This trip occurs each year without issues but this particular trip was more stressful as the passengers tried to quickly find cabs that could get them to the airport.
Some of the passengers included Ohio State's head football coach, Urban Meyer, former football notables and Heisman Trophy winners, Archie Griffin and Eddie George. Some of these faces made the delay a bit more enjoyable for the passengers.
"It was ok," passenger Bob Appleton said, according to ABC. "We had dinner with Coach Meyer and his wife last night."
The delay wasn't so bad for passenger Morissa Jenkins either as she got a look at the beautiful night sky.
"It was kind of like pitch dark, compared to the nights before. You could see the moon and the stars. But last night you couldn't even see your hand in front of your face."
According to the Port of Tampa, the Jewel of the Seas was the only ship affected by the delayed docking on Monday. The ship was scheduled to leave on time for its next sailing at 4:30 p.m. on Monday evening.
At a nearby port, Port Canaveral, another cruise ship faced a delay due to a false bomb threat. The Carnival Miracle was delayed for several hours as the port was closed when someone called in a fake bomb threat on a nearby casino ship.
