AirAsia Philippines Transfers Aviation Business to AirAsia X for Financial Improvement

Malaysia-based airline group Capital A Berhad, the operator of budget carrier AirAsia Philippines, is moving its aviation operations to AirAsia X Berhad (AAX) to enhance its financial performance. This strategic move aims to consolidate Malaysia AirAsia and AirAsia Aviation Group under the AirAsia brand, encompassing operations in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Cambodia.

Capital A CEO Tony Fernandes stated that the definitive sale and purchase agreement is in the finalization stage and expected to be signed within the next two weeks. Business World reported that this restructuring allows Capital A to shift its focus to its other businesses, including logistics aviation services and a digital platform.

AirAsia X believes this acquisition will significantly strengthen its market position and financial stability. Last year, the company successfully exited its PN17 status, a classification for financially distressed companies on the Malaysian stock exchange.

Fernandes highlighted the need to raise capital for expanding the fleet in Indonesia and the Philippines, the group's key growth markets. AirAsia aims to launch flights to the US by the year's end and sees potential in the Philippines due to growing tourism demand.
