A 10-year-old Brockton, Mass. boy called 911 on his mom Wednesday night, simply because he didn't want to go to bed yet, Enterprise News reported.
The boy called 911 at 8:09 p.m., according to a police log. He intended to tell the dispatcher he was calling on his mother who asked him to go to bed at a time he considered too early (presumably 8 p.m.).
The boy hung up, but as is police policy, the 911 operator called the number back, and spoke with the mother, who explained the situation. The mother asked the boy if he wanted to talk to the police, but he chose not to, Inquisitr reported.
Here, you can listen to the mother's conversation with the 911 operator. When the operator asked her what the emergency was, she replied, "No everything is fine here. I told him to go to bed and he doesn't wanna go to bed, so he was like, I'm gonna call the cops on you. I said go ahead. I'm like go ahead and call the cops on me then. I'm gonna put him on the phone."
When she called out to her son, asking him to talk with police, she lectured him:
"Would you like to talk to the police, because you can't be calling 911 when there is no emergency, because they need it for people who actually are in trouble. "
Abiding by police policy, an officer came to the house anyway. He explained to the 10-year-old when it's actually appropriate to call 911. It's reserved for those who are shot at stabbed or burglarized, but an unfair bedtime is no reason to dial the police, MSN reported.
No charges were placed on the family, according to Inquisitr.
