5 Travel Methods and Why You Might Try Them

Some people feel like there are only a couple of travel methods. In reality, there are all kinds of ways to get around. Humans have come up with all sorts of conveyance methods, and some of them are a lot of fun if you've never tried them before.

Of course, not every travel method works for every trip. You can't bike across the ocean, and it doesn't make much sense flying somewhere if your destination is a couple of miles away.

In this article, we'll look at a few different transportation methods, when you might use them, and why you may enjoy doing so.

ATVs and OHVs

An ATV is an all-terrain vehicle. An OHV is an off-highway vehicle. You may have seen these before, or at least heard of them.

Many individuals love ATVs and OHVs. That's because:

  • They're a fun way to get around in nature

  • You can use them on off-road trails at high speeds

There are few things more thrilling than taking your ATV or OHV out in the woods or the desert and opening it up to see what it can do. You can't use one of these to travel across the country. They're better for an outdoor exploration day.

They do have one drawback: the danger factor. Traveling off-road at high speeds can be very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Make sure you get some lessons if you want to give this conveyance method a shot, and don't ever operate an ATV or OHV after ingesting alcohol.

Kayaking or Rafting

Kayaking and rafting are two other transportation forms if you're adventure-minded. A kayak is a long canoe variety that the Innuits created. A raft is a kind of flat, buoyant structure you can use to maneuver through the water.

Both kayaking and rafting:

  • Are very fun

  • Require some skill and strength

You might use a kayak or raft to get down a stream or river. In some situations, depending where you are, you can take one hundreds of miles, sometimes crisscrossing through entire states.

If you're going to try either one, you should know how to swim. Water should not frighten you, and you should be physically fit.

If you've never done it before, you should have someone along who can guide you. This can be a fantastic way to explore the outdoors, much like ATVs and OHVs.

Light Aircraft

You might also use a light aircraft to get from one place to another. You can fly a decent distance in one, but this is not the sort of craft you'd use to fly from coast to coast.

Many people find light aircrafts fun if they want to do some sightseeing or photography. Each light aircraft does not fit very many people. You might take along a couple of family members or friends.

Light aircraft flying feels different than commercial aircraft flying. You're lower to the ground, and you can see a lot more. You can take one over the forest or mountains and see natural sights that you'd miss if you were higher up and in a larger plane.

While some people enjoy the sensations, others don't like the bumpy takeoffs and landings. Because these are smaller, lighter aircraft, the wind can push them about much more than the bigger planes.

If you're going up in one, make sure to check the weather forecast. Many individuals have died in these crafts in poor weather conditions. This is what happened to former Laker's star Kobe Bryant not that long ago.

Mountain Biking

Biking, in general, is great exercise as well as a way to get around. In some instances, you can travel through several different states via a particular mountain range. You can pick up a trail in one state and finish up hundreds of miles away in another.

Mountain biking is not like biking around your neighborhood. You should be in excellent condition if you are going to do it. You might have to bike up very steep inclines, and you need superior cardiovascular ability if you're going to attempt it.

You can drop many pounds this way, and you can also see some gorgeous sights along the way. In some states, you can see dozens of bird and animal varieties.

On the flip side, if you're out in the woods, some of the animals might not be so friendly. If you bike in a state where there are wolves, bears, or pumas, you should be ready for anything. You'll be in better shape if you go as a group to scare away predators.

Sailing

You might also decide that you're ready for some aquatic adventures. You might buy yourself a sailboat, or you could always rent one. You could charter a boat for a few days if you have the money.

You can take all kinds of pleasure boats if you live near the ocean or one of the Great Lakes. You can also try out some smaller crafts if you have any decent-sized lake nearby.

You can travel by boat sometimes, and it can seem quite luxurious. You might stock your boat with tasty treats and some adult beverages, as long as you're not the one captaining it. You might decide to drop anchor at some point and do some freshwater or saltwater fishing.

You can't sail across the country, so this is another short distance conveyance method. Taking a multiple-day sailing trip can improve your mood tremendously. You can lie on the deck and get a tan, and if you fish, you can cook anything you catch.

These are some travel options that many individuals enjoy if they try them for the first time. You'll never know if any of them appeal to you unless you give them a shot.

If you decide you want to try one out, be sure you stay safe and have someone with you who can guide you through if you run into any problems.
