Those born between 1997-2012 are considered to be a member of Generation Z, having common key social, political, and technological circumstances. Gen Z-ers are recognized to be digital natives who value security, diversity, and autonomy.

The best destinations for Generation Z travelers were outlined by the independent travel company, The Holiday Place, in the Generation Z Travel Index (GZTI) and detected by analyzing various factors that are important to them while traveling.

The Generation Z Travel Index (GZTI) is a ranking of the countries around the world that scored the highest in the factors they mentioned, thus establishing a list of the destinations for Generation Z travelers which offered the best of the best for these factors.

According to UK's The Holiday Place, the bucket lists of this up-and-coming group of world wanderers don't stray too far from the desires of previous generations, however, there are definitely differences.

The travel company took into account factors that people under 20 find important: budget, Internet connection, Instagrammability (hashtags per destination), if the place is socially conscious and eco-friendly, if adventure can be found, if it's off the beaten track, and if there are outdoor activities available.

Generation Z has grown up on the internet with social media as a normal part of their lives. Gen-Z grew up with Smartphone in hand like the Millennials. They have developed completely different preferences from other generations such as the Baby Boomers and the Millennials (also known as Generation X), wanting internet connectivity, adventure, and Instagram-worthy locations.

According to the Holiday Place, "We thoroughly researched surveys, blog posts, social media, polls and more in order to come up with a truly exhaustive list of important factors that Generation Z considers when traveling."

They considered things like budget, off the beaten path, eco-friendliness, and everything that makes a trip affordable, sustainable, and envy-inducing.

"We also added in the average internet connectivity in terms of download speed, in order to assess how likely it was that the travelers could access the internet and keep their social media following up to date on their travels," they added.

Generation Z prefer connectivity, adventure and uninhabited spaces rather than all-inclusive poolside retreats previously popular with their older peers.

The findings said that the number one destination for young travelers is Italy with its fantastic Instagram score - there are 89,456,465 hashtags for the country.

Aside from Italy offering top adventure-related activities, Italy's Mount Etna - Europe's tallest and most active volcano scores high with the off-the-beaten track factor. The country also scored well for being socially conscious and eco-friendly: two elements that were important for Gen-Z.

The US placed second, ranking high in all categories, including budget, Instagrammability, social consciousness, eco-friendliness and adventure. It had a number of World Heritage Natural Sites.

The countries were scored from one to five, with five being the highest. The countries' scores are added together, with a total of 40 being the highest available.

Two crucial factors for the younger generation were in the 'social and eco-consciousness' category.

Japan, Spain and Canada followed in the ranking, all scoring high for budget-friendliness. Germany, Poland, Romania, Mexico and New Zealand ranked next to round up the top 10.

Japan had the highest Instagram score while Canada was ranked as the most adventurous and Spain offered the most off-the-beaten-path adventures. Japan has been included in articles such as the most Instagrammable places and the most Instagrammable food and drinks.
