The International SOS, a travel security services company, released its 11th annual Travel Risk Map, an interactive map which predicts the safest and most dangerous places to travel in 2020. This list is perfect for those planning a holiday next year. Criteria was based on "the current threat posed to travellers by political violence, social unrest, as well as violent and petty crime."
The safest countries are concentrated mostly in the northern region: Denmark, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
Ranked low levels of travel risk were US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and most of Europe, Argentina, Japan, China and Namibia.
Here are the safest countries for 2020:
1. Denmark
Crime rates are low and you get access to a comprehensive public healthcare system.
Bounded by mutual trust and tolerance, crime rates in Denmark are low. The Danish police is approachable and helpful and you can reach them at 114. Emergency services are availble at 112 for ambulance, police and fire services. Just provide your name, address, and phone number and you will be offered assistance.
Equal and universal access to healthcare for all Danish residents is prevalent. Free medical treatments are offered to international students and residents.
2. Finland
In 2017, Finland was ranked the safest country in the world in a prestigious report by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum, with UAE and Iceland scoring second and third place. The safety and security rating was the section of the biennial report that was one of the factors and policies that influence the travel and tourism sector and contribute to a country's development and competitiveness.
There are no major safety issues in Helsinki, but there are a couple of shady spots tourists might need to avoid. Violent crime is rare, but sexual assaults do occur.
The rural areas are much safer destinations than Finland's capital.
3. Greenland
Traveling in Greenland is definitely not a dangerous activity. It has a population of barely 60,000 people and only have a dozen population centers. Greenland is not the sort of place where you have to keep looking over your shoulder. Greenland has low rates for crime and high rates for safety, said a statistical website, Numbeo. The capital Nuuk's low Crime Index is favorable, although the number of reported rapes among younger residents is alarming especially in the remote villages.
Greenland is safe for adventure activities like hiking and kayaking, but trails can be uneven and rocky or even icy in patches, so wear sturdy footwear.
4. Iceland
Iceland has one of the lowest crime rates, although you need to prepare for harsh weather conditions and dramatic and sometimes dangerous landscapes.The land of ice and fire has been voted the safest country in the world 12 years in a row now, based on crime rates, the political landscape, natural disasters and health risks.
The place is strong and sensible in its scenery and character; with ruggedness and softness. The people a bit rugged yet very friendly. It is not inhabited by hazardous animals.
